History :-

The Malaysia Open Source Conference (Persidangan Sumber Terbuka) was initiated by MDeC in 2009 to spur the interest and promote open source software and services. When MDeC first started, MDeC act as a catalyst to kick start the initiative before handed the helm down to Malaysia Open Source Developer Community (OSDC.my) since 2011.

A little introduction of GNOME sponsorship program for women and GSOC." I am Punit, I work for Novell and contribute to GNOME. I have been contributing for evolution for more than a year. I was involved in several bug fixes in evolution, EDS, evolution-exchange and evolution-mapi. I was also involved in some features development in evolution-mapi (public folder subscription), optimization of EDS calendar backend etc. I am also an active GNOME Bugzilla contributor and have done bug triaging at times. I am also building latest stable and unstable evolution rpms on openSUSE so people can use latest versions.

Gen Kanai of Mozilla will showcase the latest HTML 5 and related web technologies supported in the newest Firefox release. He will also cover the changes in Firefox development, including the new rapid-release schedule where Mozilla will release a new version of Firefox every 3 months.Gen will close with a discussion about the state of Mozilla in Malaysia and would like feedback from the audience regarding whether there is a need for a Malay-language Firefox.

Gen Kanai is Director of Asia Business Development for Mozilla, a California-based not-for-profit organization that develops, manages, and freely distributes the popular Mozilla Firefox web browser. Previously Gen was Director of Marketing for Mozilla Japan. Gen has also worked for Digital Garage, Sony Marketing of Japan, Sony Electronics Inc., and Toyota Motor Sales USA. He is a fellow of the U.S.-Japan Foundation 'US-Japan Leadership Program' and a fellow of the Asia Society 'Asia 21 Young Leaders' program. Gen received a B.A. in Geography from Dartmouth College and resides in Tokyo.

His focus has always been in encouraging next-generation UX application development for the web as well as desktop based applications. His area of interest are on cloud, rich internet applications (RIA), client application development, open source development, usability and web accessibility.

He is still actively served as a presenting speaker and/or conducted workshop sessions in various technology events around the country.
